Reflections on Conflict

I found myself in disagreement with the actions of a stakeholder and the following steps helped clarify my response.

1. Does the situation affect your big goals or general trajectory in life? If not, it might be best to keep your eyes on the prize instead of getting sidetracked.

2. What emotion do you feel about the situation? Rejection, lack of respect maybe? Often, conflicts are internal to us, rather than external. If I feel disrespected, how can I build more self-worth? That is the question that will address the problem at its root.

3. See the situation from their perspective, what are their compulsions, constraints, or anxieties? Perspective helps us step out of an ego-centric view.

We are all doing our best with what we have. To really address conflict, we need to think beyond our egoic needs.
